This April the Waikoloa Village Association will vote on extending the current lease on the 275 acres of remnant lowland forest managed by the Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative. It is our hope that the current 25 year lease will be extended to 75 years. The preservation and restoration of this forest is a long-term project requiring long-term presence, maintenance and management as well as long term permission by the Waikoloa Village Association to do all this work! If you are a resident of Waikoloa Village please look for the WDFI on the upcoming ballot! Mahalo for your continued support Waikoloa Village!
Saturday April 7th will be our next Volunteer Day. We will be planting common native species, pulling weeds and watering the out-plants. There will also be time for a tour an introduction to some of our plant species. Please bring your family and friends but don’t forget to RSVP!
As always…Please meet at the corner of Quarry Road and Waikoloa Road (near the new wiliwili fence) at 8:00am, transportation to the site will be provided. If you feel comfortable driving your personal vehicle into the site you may. Our work day will conclude at 1pm and refreshments will be provided. Please come prepared with hiking boots, long pants, sunscreen and adequate water (at least 1L/32oz). Gloves, tools and safety equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
